Branding for charities

Your mission and vision should sit right at the heart of your brand. At its best, strong charity branding does two jobs: it attracts and welcomes service-users, and it builds the credibility needed to rally donors and volunteers to your cause.

I specialise in helping charities navigate that exact balance – creating standout visual identities that are rooted in your mission.

Some of our lovely charity clients

Hi, I'm Emily

I’m a design specialist with over 14 years experience. I'm proud to have worked with brilliant charities and non-profits on everything from brand identities and websites to campaigns and internal comms.

But I don't do it alone! I work alongside a trusted network of talented creative freelancers across multiple disciplines, managing your projects from start to finish to get the very best results for your cause.

Our charity branding services

Brand positioning and values

Brand positioning is the process of differentiating yourself. We can help you to uncover your USP (unique selling ppint) and clearly communicate your values.

  • Does your audience know what your charity stands for?
  • Are they aware of what makes your charity different from other charities and non-profits in your sector?
  • Why would they choose you?

You’ll attract more of the right audience and help people to make easier decisions about working with you. Your values, and how and why your charity operates are entirely unique to you. We’ll ensure there is clarity in your brand positioning.

Brand messaging and tone of voice

We help you build your messaging across all platforms and create a consistent tone of voice that people will recognise and emotionally connect with.

  • Is your story clear?
  • How do you want your audience to feel when they read your content?
  • What words or personality traits best describe your charity’s natural way of speaking?
  • How do your messaging needs shift across different audiences, such as major funders versus service users?

There should be a golden thread of consistency from top to bottom to build trust and credibility. If not, people will get confused and lose trust in your authority and mission.

Logo design

Your charity’s visual identity extends to all things design, colour and imagery. Even the chosen typeface will have a ‘feeling’ we expect your audience to experience.

  • What symbol, concept, or feeling should your logo represent?
  • How will this logo need to perform across different applications, from small digital icons to large event banners?
  • What existing brand legacy do we need to preserve or evolve?
  • How do we make sure we don't lose recognition with a logo change?

Your logo communicates who you are at a single glance. Having a clean, well-crafted mark gives your charity visual credibility, making it far easier to stand out to donors, partners, and the people who need your support.

Visual Identity Design

Your charity’s visual identity extends to all things design, colour and imagery. Even the chosen typeface will have a ‘feeling’ we expect your audience to experience.

  • How can our choice of colour palettes, typography, and image styles reflect the heart of your mission?
  • How are we meeting accessibility and inclusivity standards?
  • What existing visual assets or campaign collateral do you rely on most in day-to-day operations?
  • How can we make sure we don't lose recognition when updating our branding?

It all plays a part in the bigger picture of your brand and helps to make you instantly recognisable.

Being recognised is a key part of every charity’s marketing strategy  - you want to be remembered!

This piece of the branding process takes place once all the foundations and research are complete –  often the most exciting part for clients!

Brand guidelines

Your charity’s new branding is ready to go, and what better way to showcase it than with a launch? We can create all the assets you need to successfully launch and promote your rebrand. From graphics to copywriting, we can help with as little or as much of your launch as you need to create the greatest impact.

  • Who will be using these guidelines on a day-to-day basis – internal staff, external partners, or volunteers?
  • What templates, asset formats, or specific rules do your teams need to keep production simple and accurate?
  • How will you manage and store these assets to ensure everyone has access to the latest files?

Brand guidelines protect the investment you’ve made in your rebrand by giving everyone a clear, accessible way of implementing. They eliminate guesswork for internal teams and external collaborators, ensuring your charity maintains a consistent, polished look and voice as you grow.

Training and Workshops

Once your charity’s branding is in place, and a launch date has been agreed upon, you may need to consider rolling out training to stakeholders. We can create bespoke training and workshops to internally launch your new branding, including how and where to implement your new brand guidelines. It’s the perfect way to start to embed your new branding into the culture of your charity.

  • Which key internal teams or stakeholders will be responsible for implementing and championing the new brand?
  • What specific tools or design platforms (like Canva) does your team currently use?
  • What potential challenges or questions do you anticipate from staff or volunteers during the rollout?

A rebrand is only successful if your team feels confident using it. Training helps empower staff and volunteers to speak about and present the charity with confidence and consistency.

Designed to get employee and board buy-in

A successful charity rebrand requires far more than just great visual execution – it's also about structured communication and buy-in at every level.

I understand the mechanics of charity governance, regularly presenting strategic concepts to boards, trustees, and steering groups while managing complex feedback.

From initial consultation through to final sign-off, I handle the project management end-to-end. You get a calm, structured process that respects your internal governance, protects your timeline, and gives your board complete confidence in the final direction.

We are absolutely delighted with our new Shop & Drop website. It’s so easy to navigate and makes it really clear what our charity does.
